 Introduction to Microarrays, Oslo, 18. - 19. May 2009

The introductory course is a two day course and is aimed at scientists who are new to microarrays or those who want to learn about experimental design. Main topics to be covered are:

  • Microarray pipeline
  • Microarray technologies and applications
    • Microarray platforms
    • Other types of arrays (SNP arrays, ChIP chip etc.)
  • Experimental design
  • Preprocessing of microarray data
    • Quality control, filtering, normalisation
  • Finding differentially expressed genes using t-test
  • Introduction to explorative methods, such as clustering, PCA and PLS
  • Get familiar with looking at gene graphs

Analysis of microarrays using J-Express, March 2009, Bergen

This is a course at the second level of NMC's course series. Participants should have attended a course at the introductory level or have equivalent background knowledge on microarray technology.

We intend to focus on practicals in this course, main topics to be covered are:

  • Working with J-Express functionality
    • Groups
    • Sub datasets
    • Use different analysis modules in sequence to investigate different parts of the data
  • Experimental design including practical task
  • Differential expression
    • SAM/t-test/Rank Product
  • Gene Set Analysis
  • Explorative methods (PCA / PLS / CA / clustering)
  • Time Series (briefly)

NMC will host a microarray technology and data analysis - including laboratory training course March 2009 at NTNU in Trondheim.

Course description:

The course is meant as an introduction for students and scientists who either plan to start using the technique, or who work in a laboratory where microarray technology is established. The course covers the main areas of microarray technology through lectures. It also aims to provide the participants with some practical experience in Microarray technology through a laboratory course including labeling of probe, microarray hybridization by using Illumina BeadChip technology.

The course includes approximately 15 hours of self study in advance of the course, 23 hours with lectures and 18 hours laboratory work.

J-Express workhop 7th of December 2007 in Bergen

Updated by Anne-Kristin Stavrum 15th of November 2007

It is our pleasure to invite you to the next J-Express workshop. The workshop will be on Friday 7th of December from 9.00 until 12.00 (or as long as we need to go on).

The workshops allow you to discuss / get help analysing your own data, or get familiar with the software if you are new to it, through hands-on tutorials. As earlier we want you to bring your own data, preferably on your own laptops. If you don't have your own data but would like to join and do tutorials, please let me know and I will have some tutorials available for you.

J-Express data analysis course 09 -11 October 2007.

Updated by Rita Holdhus on Sep 3rd 2007

NMC is planning a 3 days J-express data analysis course in Bergen. The course will have a theoretical part with a short overview/background on microarray analysis. And a part where different J- express practices will be reviewed, such as different basic J-express features and different high level analysis methods(such as SAM, GO, clustering,GSEA and rank product).

J-Express workshop 8th June 2007

posted by Harald Breilid on Jun 05 2007

The J-Express workshops are becoming a tradition, and we are now pleased
to invite you to another one. The workshops allow you to discuss / get
help analysing your own data, or get familiar with the software if you
are new to it, through hands-on tutorials.

The next workshop will be on Friday 8th of June from 9.00 until 12.00.
It will be at the same place as last time: CBU seminar room, 5th floor
in the Data block of the High Technology Center ( HIB ).
As earlier we want you to bring your own data, preferably on your own
laptops. If you don't have your own data but would like to join and do
tutorials, please let me know and I will have some tutorials available
for you.
We would like to start the workshop in plenary going through general
questions or problems that you may have, so please send me your
questions by e.mail up front so that I can prepare the discussions.
Don't be afraid of asking questions that you think only apply to you.
There could be others who are wondering about the same thing.
